Copyright and Ownership
Event Horizon Films or any other partner, employee or agent associated with this contest claims no ownership nor first right of option to any original screenplay submitted to this contest. All ownership and rights to the scripts submitted to this contest remains with the original rights holders until and unless other agreements are made.
Publicity
Except where prohibited by law, participation in the contest constitutes each entrant’s consent to Event Horizon Films, Torfoot Films, and their respective agents’ and the contest sponsor’s use of entrants’ names, likenesses, photographs, and/or personal information for promotional purposes in any media, worldwide, without further payment or consideration. All uses of entrants’ information are in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Refund Poilcy
All entries are non-refundable.
Guild or Union Applicability
You agree that you are responsible for adhering to the requirements of any guild or union in which you are a member and that you will inform us thereof.
Amendments to Rules, Eligibility, Terms and Conditions
We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to amend, modify, or revise any of the rules, eligibility requirements, processes, and/or terms and conditions of the contest where we determine it is required, including, without limitation, in order to comply with any applicable laws, rules, or regulations.
Taxes
Each of the entrants shall be solely responsible for any taxes or other obligations incurred in connection with any prizes or awards given in connection with this contest or otherwise, and none of Event Horizon Films, Torfoot Films, or the festival, nor any of their respective agents or representatives shall have any liability or responsibility therefor.
Entry Conditions and Release
BY ENTERING THE CONTEST YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND AGREE TO THESE CONDITIONS. You agree to
release and hold harmless Event Horizon Films, Torfoot Films, and their respective affiliated companies and individuals, Prize contributors, judges, screenplay readers, Sponsors, and any other organizations or individuals responsible for administering, advertising or promoting the Contest, and every one of their respective members, directors, employees, agents and representatives past and present (collectively, the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all claims, expenses, and liability, including but not limited to damages and negligence to property and persons, including but not limited to invasion of privacy, defamation, slander, libel, violation of right of publicity, copyright, infringement of trademark or other intellectual property rights relating to a participant’s Entry, participation in the Contest, violation of the rules, eligibility, or terms and conditions (including, without limitation, infringement of intellectual property rights), and/or acceptance or use or misuse of Prize; provided however, that such release will not apply to any commercial exploitation of the script by a Released Party in violation of your rights under applicable copyright law; and you agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Event Horizon Films and its Sponsor, Torfoot Films, each of their respective agents and employees from and against any and all claims, expenses, and liabilities (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) relating to an entrant’s participation in the Contest, violation of the rules, eligibility, or terms and conditions (including, without limitation, infringement of intellectual property rights), and/or entrant’s use or misuse of Prize. Employees of Event Horizon Films and their immediate families are ineligible to participate in this contest. Any such submission will be immediately disqualified. ENTRY TO THIS CONTEST IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED or restricted by any Federal, State or Local law. Voided entries will be refunded. Recipients’ eligibility will be verified before the prize is awarded and the winner may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility among other documents and agreements (including an option-purchase agreement) in our discretion in order to receive or participate in any prize. By entering the contest, you authorize us to use any trusted third-party online and cloud-based services and databases for hosting, managing and/or transmitting your submission file(s).

Rules

Submissions are accepted via electronic submission on the submission platform described below only, between the dates provided for the competition.

Entry fees will vary depending on each deadline. Please review the fees and dates of the competition via the submission page.

Short screenplays must be a minimum of 5 pages and a maximum of 12 pages, subject to that which is set forth regarding eligibility.

There is no limit to the number of projects you may submit, but each project must be submitted separately from any other projects including with the payment of separate submission fees.

Entries must be received on or before the deadline dates by 11:59PM Central Time on such dates, and submission fee payment must be made in full at time of the submission. Entry is not deemed to be made, including for the purposes of all deadlines, until the submission fee payment is made in full. All entry fees are non-refundable.

All submitted material must be original with, and all rights must be wholly owned by, the individual(s) listed as the writer(s) on and for such material as submitted.

Material must be submitted by the writer. Material written by writing teams must be submitted by one of the writers, with written consent of the other(s) thereto. All writers must be credited on the title page of the material.

If a writing team is chosen as a winner or a finalist or otherwise receives any prize or award, prizes and awards will be given to the person who submits the project. Each team is responsible for dividing or sharing the prize and/or award as agreed upon by the members of such writing team. Each team further agrees that any such agreements and actions are and will be in accordance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations. Each of the members of any such writing team will be required to execute releases and other documentation as referenced herein or as otherwise required in connection with the prizes and/or awards.

Substitutions of either corrected pages or new drafts of the entered material will not be allowed for the Script to Screen Category. Please proofread your script carefully before submitting.

It is recommended that original material be registered with the WGA or The Library of Congress by the writer before submitting to any competition, however we do not require registration for submission.

Contact info may be included on the cover page of the screenplay, however it is not required.

Script To Screen Winner will not be allowed to submit the script as submitted to this competition or as otherwise further amended to other competitions or festivals.

The Script to Screen winner must sign a release form and other agreements and documentation with Torfoot Films (and any other relevant parties) as Torfoot Films sees fit in its discretion during the first two weeks after being sent such forms and documents, which, among other things, will allow Torfoot Films to produce the film, under no direct financial obligations, with no remuneration due for the acquisition of the screenplay other than an aggregate of a 10% share of the film’s net profit for the writer(s) in case the film directly made from the script returns net profit. If such forms and documents are not executed within such time period, the prizes and/or awards may be forfeited by the writer(s) and another winner may be chosen in our discretion.

All ownership and rights to each of the scripts submitted to this contest, with the exception of the winning script of the Script to Screen Category, remains with each of the applicable original rights holders.

We reserve the right to cancel and/or terminate the winner’s production, and the winner would then forfeit all rights in and to any prizes and awards, if the winner engages in criminal activity or behaves in a way that reflects inappropriately on the festival, Torfoot Films, Event Horizon Films, or any of their respective agents or representatives, in our or the festival’s sole discretion. In any such event, we have the right to select alternate winners and award any of such winners prizes and awards.
Eligibility

All writers at least 18 years of age are eligible.

All persons from anywhere in the world are eligible; however the material submitted must be in English (occasional dialogue in other languages is acceptable, if subtitle translation is provided).

All material previously submitted to other competitions or contests are eligible for this contest.

There are no requirements as to when the material was written.

Screenplay and all intellectual property contained therein or related thereto must be wholly owned and submitted by the writer(s).

Material should be submitted in industry-standard screenplay format including, without limitation, with respect to font, spacing and margin.

We have no preferences regarding title page content. Title and name of writer would suffice.

Entries for this competition are managed on the submission platform Submittable.

Adaptations are ineligible unless the underlying rights are owned by the writer or the work is in the public domain. If any adaptations are submitted, the writer(s) represent and warrant that either they own all such underlying rights in the original work or the original work is in the public domain.

The recommended length for shorts is 12 pages. Scripts over 12 pages are fine and will be accepted, however please note that there is a small page overage charge of $1 per every page over 12 pages.

Shorts longer than 14 pages will not be eligible.
